Change lessons from adventure photography 2 – Open water swimming, Limassol, November 2025
Relentless, “urgent” change doesn’t break organisations. It erodes them.
This image captures something many organisations experience. Not collapse from a single shock, but slow wear from constant movement — wave after wave, with no pause between impacts.
For more than a decade, many public sector organisations have lived in this state. Not one transformation too many, but too many disconnected transformations, layered on top of each other without time to settle, reflect, or learn.
Change fatigue isn’t always resistance.
Often, it is erosion.
The response is not to stop change, but to change how it lands: build in deliberate pauses, retire old initiatives before launching new ones, and create space to consolidate and learn. Organisational energy is finite.
Resilient organisations don’t absorb every wave. They are designed to recover between them
